Abstract: AgNb2O5F visible light photocatalyst powder was synthesized by using the conventional solid-state reaction method. Phase composition of the samples was analyzed with XRD, while morphology and elemental composition were examined by using SEM and EDS. AgNb2O5 has a bandgap of 2.68 eV, thus having strong visible light absorption. With the irradiation of visible light, the AgNb2O5 photocatalyst exhibited Rhodamine B degradation rate of 90% in 120 min, corresponding to a kinetic constant of 0.021 min-1, while the antibacterial rates of AgNb2Oagainst Gram negative Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were 96.0% and 94.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, without light irradiation, the AgNb2Ostill demonstrated certain antibacterial activities to Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, with antibacterial rates to be 60.4% and 78.2%, respectively.

Key words: fluoroniobate; photocatalyst; silver ion; antibacterial material
