Abstract: With basic titanium glaze, suspension agent, and K2CO3 additives as the main raw materials, the effects of mullite whiskers and nanometer alumina on the properties and microstructure of enamel glaze were studied. While the properties, such as Vickers hardness and glossiness, were measured, microstructure of the enamel glaze was characterized by using XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS, and so on. After firing at 820 ℃ for 30 min for heat preservation, with 16 wt.% mullite whisker and nanometer alumina, the Vickers hardnesses of the samples are 6.12 GPa and 5.64 GPa, respectively, while the glossiness of the sample decreases gradually with increasing content of the dopants.
Key words: enamel glaze; mullite whiskers; nanometer alumina; Vickers hardness; glossiness
