Extended Abstract:[Background and purpose] The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with traditional art forms has opened up new possibilities in creative practices. In the realm of ceramic art, AI provides innovative tools and methods to push the boundaries of artistic expression and functionality. This study is aimed to study the application of AI technologies in contemporary ceramic art, thus uncovering their potential to enhance creative processes, expanding design possibilities and transforming traditional practices. As one of the most influential technological innovations of the 21st century, AI is profoundly reshaping creative models and forms of expression across various fields. In the realm of art, the rapid development of AI technology has injected new vitality into traditional artistic practices. Particularly in the field of ceramic art, which embodies both historical heritage and contemporary expression, the application of AI demonstrates immense potential. The continuous innovation in materials, techniques and design language within ceramic art provides a unique opportunity for its integration with AI.[Methods] A multidisciplinary approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods was adopted in this study. Key AI technologies, including generative design algorithms, machine learning models and computer-aided manufacturing systems, were analyzed for their applicability in ceramic art. Case studies of pioneering artists and studios utilizing AI were examined, alongside experimental practices where AI tools were employed to design and produce ceramic pieces. Meanwhile, literature analysis and case study methods were combined to systematically review the current applications of AI technologies in the field of ceramic art. With representative cases, the specific impacts of AI technologies on the creative processes and artistic expression of ceramic art were explored.[Results] It is found that AI facilitates innovation in three primary areas. Design: AI-powered generative tools enable complex, biomimetic and parametric designs, which would be challenging to create manually. Production: Machine learning and robotic systems enhance precision and efficiency in ceramic fabrication, from 3D printing to glaze application. Artistic Collaboration: AI acts as a creative collaborator, offering unexpected aesthetic outcomes and inspiring artists to reimagine traditional ceramic techniques.[Conclusions] AI technology is not a replacement but a complement to human creativity in ceramic art. The adoption of AI marks a transformative era for the discipline, fostering innovation while preserving the cultural and artistic essence. Future research should focus on developing more accessible AI tools and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to broaden the impact of AI in the arts.
