Abstract: The effect of different heat treatment temperature on the synthesis of barium aluminate was studied by using barium carbonate(BaCO3) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) as raw materials. The hydration characteristics of BaAl2O4 were studied by using BaAl2O4 as raw materials. The phase evolution of the synthesized products and the phase composition of the hydration products were studied by XRD. The reactivity of BaCO3 and Al2O3 and the dehydration of BaAl2O4 hydrate were studied by TG-DSC. The microstructure of the hydrated products was observed by SEM. The results show that BaCO3 and Al2O3 can be used as raw materials to obtain high purity BaAl2O4 at 1200 ℃ for 3 h,and the phase composition of the product is complex and presents a lot of columnar and acicular structure.

Key words: barium aluminate; cementitious materials; synthesis; hydration
