Abstract: Alumina insulation slurry with low viscosity and high solid content was prepared using terpinol as dissolvent, ethyl cellulose as binder, triethanolamine as dispersant and castor oil as thixotropic agent. The influence on slurry rheology by the content of dispersant and thixotropic agent waw studied respectively. Experimental investigation indicated that the slurry had good rheology when the organic solvent was doped with 5wt% triethanolamine as dispersant and 3wt% castor oil as thixotropic agent. Theprepared alumina insulation slurry was screen printed on a substrate, then sintered at 1100℃ and a thermal insulating layer was formed with the thickness of 8μm and the resistivity of 8.0×106Ω·cm.

Key words: alumina; insulation slurry; dispersant; thixotropic agent; rheology
