Abstract:he acid-heat activation is an effective means to enhance the adsorption properties of clay. The structure of the acidheat treated rectorite from Zhongxiang, Hubei wa characterized by XRD, SEM and BET methods. Its adsorption performance was evaluated by methylene blue solution. The results showed that the acid-heat treatment increased the specific surface area and the adsorption capacity of the rectorite, and the reasons are as follows: the internal pore opening by the inorganic salts dissolving and the interlayer water removal, the dissolution of the exchangeable cations, and the decrease in the adsorption resistance due to the surface and internal water film removal.

Key words :acid-heat treatment; rectorite; adsorption
