Abstract: Ni-YSZ based anode was prepared by butyric acid impregnation in dense YSZ/porous YSZ complex. The structure, pore distribution and porosity of dense YSZ/porous YSZ complex, phase and content of impregnated anode and electrochemical performance of single cell were characterized by SEM, mercury intrusion method, Archimedes, XRD, electronic balance weighing and electrochemical workstation, respectively. The results show that dense YSZ was compatible with porous YSZ, the pore distribution of porous YSZ was homogeneous, the pore structure was regular and the porosity reached 52%. 40.5% gain in weight of half cell was obtained by impregnation of the dense YSZ/porous YSZ complex for 8 times in butyric acid with the Ni2+ ratio of 1.5. The single cell had excellent electrochemical performance because the resulted Nano-NiO grains of about 20~40nm from impregnation enhanced the catalytic activity of the anode and increased the length of triple-phase boundaries.

Key words:   impregnated; anode; triple-phase boundaries; electrochemical performance
