Preparation of Ultra-Low Thermal Expansion Cordierite Ceramic Honeycomb Material

Abstract: In this paper, the samples of cordierite honeycomb ceramic from NGK and a factory in Yixing were analyzed and studied comparatively by using the XRD and SEM. The result is that the thermal expansion coefficient of cordierite honeycomb ceramic from NGK (0.2×10-6/℃) is smaller than Yixing (1.2×10-6/℃), for cordierite ceramic from NGK created microcrack in microstructure. Then, the process for preparing ultra -low expansion cordierite ceramic was proposed: the microstructure was optimized through both the slurry dispersion and firing system in order to effectively reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion.
