The Properties and Application of a New Kind of Microporous Insulation Material

Abstract: The chemical construction equipment with microporous insulation blanket has an important effect on the product. A new kind of microporous insulation material was developed with SiO2, MgO and SiC as the main components, the particle size of the inorganic aggregation in the structure of the insulation material was 10~35 nm, forming a semi-closed convection space in nanometer grade, in which the heat loss caused by the convection process was reduced efficiently. The thermal conductivity of the microporous insulation material was tested, and the insulation properties were characterized and compared with the common ceramic fiber. At the same temperature, the thermal conductivity of the microporous insulation material was lower than that of the common ceramic fiber, and with the same insulating thickness, the lower heat loss and cold face temperature of the microporous insulation material indicating the better insulating capacity. Then the microporous insulation material was used as the inner insulation of a furnace instead of the common ceramic fiber, the optimum insulation thickness of the microporous insulation material was calculated at 40 mm, just half of that of the common ceramic fiber, and the cold temperature was 49°C, 12°C lower than that of the common ceramic fiber, and 37% heat loss was reduced.
