Abstract: In this paper, the phase composition and chemical composition of the quartz sand from Gansu region were studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis. Employing the analytic Jade software of X-ray diffraction data, the phase analysis was conducted. The mass percentages of the main phases were calculated by the adiabatic method for the quartz samples, and compared with the XRF data. The results showed that the main phases of the two samples were quartz (α-SiO2), Albite (Na(Si3Al)O8), potassium feldspar (KAlSi3O8) and gismondine (Ca2Al2Si2O8·4H2O).
