Abstract:Cizhou kiln system, one of the largest commercial kiln networks in the North of ancient China, was situated in the area stretching from Guantai to Pengcheng of Ci County in Handan City of Hebei Province. Sand pottery is another sequence of Cizhou ware. The firing schedule of Yijing pottery known as pottery "smelting" in Han Dynasty and pottery "firing" since Ming Dynasty is still preserved in Fengfeng Mining District of Handan City for making traditional ceramic cookers. Tribesmen engaged in pottery made sand pottery objects for their livelihood apart from farming. They helped with farming during a busy season and worked with clay at a pottery workshop at their leisure. A commercial pottery workshop was capable of operating for three seasons and stopped temporarily in winter for a break.

Key words:Cizhou; pottery firing; production of ceramic cookers
