Abstract: The raw materials for preparing Al₂0₃sol are selected and the main factors (water content catalyst and temperature) which affect the preparation technology have been analyzed- The preparation technology of Al₂0₃sol is optimized and a faster prepara-tion method of Al₂0₃sol is proposed • Stable and transparent Al₂0₃ sols are prepared. Al₂0₃ sol can be stably stored compara-bly. As the mole ratio of Al (C₃H₇0)₃ to water is less than 1:100, the sol can be stored more than 3 months without gelating.The characteristics of Al₂0₃: sol and the gelating mechanisms of the sol have been studied. It showed that the Al₂0₃ sol can be stored stably when the pH value is between 3-5 and 4.5. The Al₂0₃ sol will gelate when the acidity or alkalinity of the sol is very strong. It is the repulsion that keeps the Al₂0₃ sol being stored stably. There is no absolute bound between the Al₂0₃ sol and its gel, the Al₂0₃ sol and its gel can be transformed each other
