Abstract: In this paper, SiC/Si laminated ceramic compos ites were fabricated us ing a conventional paper as raw material, firs tpaper was des igned with laminate s tructure, then laminated, finally arbonized at low temperature, in- s itu reacted with melts ilicon at high temperature in Ar atmosphere. The phase formation and the micros tructure were analyzed by XRD and TEM.XRD analys is indicated that carbonized specimen was composed of amorphous carbon, the final product was composed of β- SiC, s ilicon and res idual carbon. SEM showed that carbonized specimen contained many holes and pos ses sed adis tinguishable laminated s tructure. SiC/Si ceramic compos ites have laminated s tructure. The s trength of SiC/Si ceramiccompos ites which was measured by three - point bending tes t, was 290MPa, which attained the s trength value of the ordinaryreaction - bonded SiC ceramics . The laminated SiC/Si ceramic compos ites showed a non - catas trophic fracture behavior, which attributed to the laminated morphology.
