Abstract: The main point of this paper 1ies in the research on the microstructure of the mullite-cordierite sagger, which has been used in the production of Jingdezhen ceramic industry in 1arge quantities for many years, by means of a polarization microscope with ultrathin section together with close connection of the process in the sagger manufacture. Pointed out in this paper are that the main crystalline phase of the described sagger material is cordierite and its subcrystalline phases are α-Al₂O₃ and mullite and that the various crystalline phases in the above-mentioned sagger material takes the shape of aggregate distribution. In addition to this, in the process of preparing the u1trathin section one can find the sagger structure to be in a loose state.Finally. a point of view has been made by the auther about the course of producing aggregate distribution.
