Abstract: Heat pipe heat exchanger which is used for waste heat recovery is manufactured. It is composed of some gravity heat pipes with fins. Water is the working medium of heat pipe and the shell material is carbon steel. An experimental test system of heat pipe heat exchanger is built. The effects of flue gas mass flow rate, temperature and air mass flow of the heat pipe heat exchanger on heat transfer rate, exergy efficiency and thermal efficiency are studied. It is indicated that heat pipe heat exchanger has a higher heat exchange efficiency, its maximum heat efficiency is more than 75%; The heat transfer rate of heat pipe heat exchanger falls between 3500W and 6000W; the exergy efficiency varies from 48% to 62%; it rises with the increase of the flue gas mass flow rate of; the effectiveness of the heat pipe heat exchanger falls between 0.4 and 0.75; it decreases with the rise of the flue gas mass flow rate.

Key words: heat pipe heat exchanger; waste heat of flue gas; kiln; experiment
