Abstract: All-ceramic dental materials have been widely used in clinic with the excellent biocompatibility and physicochemical properties.In recent years, in order to simulate the coloring effect of natural teeth, the rare earth elements with unique optical properties have been used for coloring the materials which have achieved good results. The review briefly summarizes the application of rare earth elements in the coloring of zirconia and glass ceramics and other common dental all-ceramic restorative materials, the research status of mechanical properties and cytotoxicity of the materials after being colored, and effects of rare earth elements on dental glaze properites.
