Abstract: Carbon fibers (Cf) reinforced ZrC-SiC ceramic matrix composites are potential candidates for developing high temperature resistance, thermal shock resistance, ablation resistance and oxidation resistance, solving the problems of low fracture toughness and low oxidation resistance in the middle low temperature of ZrC ceramics as well as no enduring high temperature of Cffor oxidizing atmosphere. The toughening mechanisms of Cf reinforced ceramic matrix composites are described. Recent research progress in preparation of Cf reinforced ZrC-SiC ceramic matrix composites is reviewed. It also makes a prospect for Cf reinforced ZrC-SiC ceramic matrix composites.
