Abstract: The TiB2, ZrB2, and HfB2 diboride UHTCs are widely used in ultra high temperature fields such as aerospace aviation, because of their high melting point, high thermal conductivity, superb chemical stability, and excellent oxidation resistance at high temperature. This paper introduced the physical and chemical properties of diboride UHTCs, carried out a thermodynamic analysis of their oxidation behavior, demonstrated their protection mechanism, and summarized the sintering densification and the preparation methods of the diboride-based ultra high temperature ceramic coating. In the end, the research orientation of the diboride UHTCS in the future was pointed out.
