Abstract: Because learning Zen’s principles of justice and classic stories does not bring immediate effect, people can hardly be interested in the quintessence of human thoughts in a utilitarian society. But with the visual help of images, those ideas are certainly easier to get rooted in the minds of people and spread more widely. This paper attempts to find a way to the combination of Zen Buddhism with ceramic painting through the reproductions of natural landscape of Zen philosophy, images of famous Zen people and scenes of classic Zen story to explore more possibilities for the integration of Zen philosophy and ceramic culture, so that people can better understand the Zen doctrines and practices when they appreciate ceramics, thus promoting the mutual development of ceramic and Zen culture.
