Abstract: Mg-Al spinel samples were prepared by semi-dry pressing and sintering, using waste aluminum slag as the main source material. Experiment results showed that when the molar ratio of MgO : Al2O3 was 1 : 1, the samples obtained after sintering at 1500 °C for 1 hour had high content of Mg-Al spinel; the increase of the sintering temperature was beneficial to Mg-Al spinel formation; the addition of TiO2 or H3BO3 could increase the density of the as-prepared Mg-Al spinel while the density of the specimens doped with TiO2 was higher than those doped with H3BO3, and the optimal TiO2 addition was 4%.

Key words: waste aluminum slag; Mg-Al spinel material; additive
