Abstract: As an important component of microstructure of refractories, pores have a great impact on physical properties of materials. This paper mainly introduces the representation of porosity, pore size distribution, pore shape and the influence of pore characteristics on mechanical property and thermal property of materials, including strength and thermal conductivity. The main issues are summarized based on the existing research, and provide a theoretical foundation for the subsequent research on the correlation between pore characteristics and physical properties of refractories.

Key words: pore characteristics; refractories; mechanical property; thermal proper
