Abstract: Zirconium-based ceramic pigments with Pr2(CO3)3 and Fe2O3 as colorants were prepared through ball-milling method. The pigments and Ag-carrying antimicrobial agents were doped in dental glaze. The basic properties of the doped glaze including the colorimetric value, surface roughness, microstructure and thermal shock resistance were tested, and its antibacterial effect was evaluated by inhibition zone test. The results showed that the antibacterial glaze with a similar color to Chinese natural tooth could be prepared by doping the dental glaze with pigments and antibacterial agents. With suitable roughness and good thermal shock resistance the glaze met the standards of clinical enameling, while at the same time obtained effective antibacterial performance, its antibacterial distance to the staphylococcus aureus being up to 3 mm.
