Abstract: Porous TiN ceramics with high porosity and uniform pore structure was prepared by carbothermal reduction reaction between TiO2 and carbon. The influences of sintering additives, TiO2 particle size and sintering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of porous TiN ceramics were investigated. XRD analysis proved the formation of only TiN during the high-temperature sintering. SEM analysis showed that the resultant porous TiN ceramics was composed of small equiaxed grains and uniformly-distributed pores. The porous TiN ceramics sintered at 1600 ℃ showed higher porosity with the addition of Lu2O3 as a sintering additive and TiO2(D50 = 10μm) as a starting material.
