Abstract：Appearing in the Neolithic Age, pottery kept a record of the original state of human life and psychology. It has great significance to the history of human development. As a remarkable treasure of artificial creation in Chinese history, the artless concepts in the shape design embodied the value of utility and created ideological inspiration. Beginning with the theory and the concept of modern design and combining with the state of human life in the Neolithic Age, this paper studies the features of pottery design in the primitive society and the modern concepts of design presented in pottery making.
