Abstract: The opaque base glaze formula is determined through experiments with commonly-used raw materials such as potassium feldspar, kaolin, quartz, bone ash, talc, calcite and zirconite. Then preferable opaque colored glazes were successfully prepared by adding to the base glaze batch praseodymium yellow, chrome green, cobalt blue, and inclusion red, respectively. The results show that cobalt blue, chrome green and praseodymium yellow are adaptable to phosphorus opaque glaze while inclusion red is adaptable to zirconium opaque glaze; the optimal doping amounts of cobalt blue, chrome green, inclusion red, and praseodymium yellow are respectively 6%, 8-10%, 8-10%, and 10%.

Key words: medium temperature; opaque glaze; colored glaze; bone ash
