Abstract:In this paper, the drilling process of machinable canasite glass-ceramics was modeled in two steps. The finite element analysis of its machining mechanism showed that the maximal stress direction of the material was along the same direction the front edge of the driller works. It means that micro crack is produced along the direction the driller works, allowing the material to be machined efficiently without having devastating consequences. Therefore, this material is suitable for conventional machining.

Key words:glass-ceramics; machining mechanism; finite element analysis
