Abstract:The Ti3SiC2 ceramic material was synthesized by hot-pressing sintering process from Ti, Si, C and Ti, SiC, C powders, respectively. XRD and SEM were employed to study effects of the raw material system and firing temperature on the phase constituents, densification and microstructure of the samples, and the reaction mechanism was analyzed as well. The results show: (1) with the temperature increasing, the purity of Ti3SiC2 material prepared was higher using the Ti-Si-C system than the Ti-SiC-C system; (2) when elemental powders were used, the Ti3SiC2 phase was synthesized by the reaction of TiC,Ti5Si3 phase and the remainder of Si and C at 1300℃, and the Ti3SiC2 phase was synthesized by the reaction of TiC phasewith Ti-Si liquid phase in the temperature range of 1300~1600℃.
