Abstract: Effects of the organic dispersant citric acid on the dispersibility of alumina powder and the stability of its suspension were studied through experiments. The dispersibility of alumina powder and the stability of its suspension were characterized by viscosity. Results show: under acidic conditions (pH=3), the optimal doping amount of citric acid was 0.2%; under alkaline conditions (pH =11), the optimal doping amount of citric acid was 0.1 ~0.2% ; compared with the barrier behavior of polyethylene glycol, the dispersion and suspension by citric acid are realized through steric hindrance and electrostatic reaction.

Key words:  alumina powder; citric acid; dispersibility; polyethylene glycol
