Abstract: Li2SrSiO4:Eu2+,Tb3+ phosphor was prepared by solid-state reaction at a high temperature in the reducing atmosphere [N2/H2 = 95/5 (v/v)]. The luminescence characteristics and the energy transfer between Eu2+ and Tb3+ in Li2SrSiO4 phosphor were discussed by means of the spectrofluorometry. The results indicated that in Li2SrSiO4 host the Eu2+ emission was mainly from 4f7 - 4f65d1 transitions and possible to be sensitized by Tb3+. The observed strong enhancement of the Eu2+ emission for introducing Tb3+ is attributed to the energy transfer effect from Tb3+ to Eu2+ through the electric multipolar interaction. Compared with Eu -doped Li2SrSiO4, the luminescence intensity of Eu2+ and Tb3+ co-doped phosphor was significantly improved. The maximum emission intensity could be achieved when the content of Eu2+ equaled 0.005 and Tb3+ equaled 0.010.

Key words: silicate phosphor; rare earth; co-doping; energy transfer
