Abstract: Currently, thermodilatometry is a popular method for measuring the firing temperature of ancient ceramics. Although the technique has been in existence for almost half a century, some people still doubt its feasibility for its theoretical and experimental bases are rarely investigated. In the simulated experiment, porcelain specimens fired at different temperatures were made, and their thermal expansion curves were obtained after their refiring by means of a hermodilatometer. The principles of the measurement were summarized and its feasibility and the criterion for firing temperature determination were discussed. Hopefully, the study can provide experimental data for further research.
