Abstract: Effect of sucrose on the rheology of aqueous alumina suspensions with polyacrylate (PAA) was investigated. The results showed that sucrose could improve the stability of alumina suspensions with PAA in acid and alkaline conditions. At pH 9.0, the viscosity of PAA -H2O -Al2O3 suspension decreased with the increasing of the sucrose content, and did not vary appreciably when the content of sucrose exceeding 4wt%. Sucrose could obviously raise the rheology of slurry with low addition of PAA (0.3wt %). Sucrose could enhance the stability of alumina suspensions with 25-40vol%, especially 40vol%, solid loadings. Besides, adding sucrose could improve the anti-electrolyte properties of PAA -H2O -Al2O3 suspensions.
