Abstract:SiC dust-collecting powders and petroleum coke were used as raw materials to prepare reaction bonded silicon carbide(RBSC) after refinement and surface modification treatment. The green body of RBSC was obtained using a gelcasting method, the RBSC ceramics were sintered through infiltration of liquid silicon at 1600°C in a vacuum furnace for 2 hours. The analysis results of the Zeta value and rheological properties of powdered SiC suspensions indicated that the dispersibility of the SiC powers was improved after refinement and surface modification treatment. The viscosity of the suspensions increased with the content of petroleum coke in the suspensions increasing. Adding 16~18wt% petroleum coke,a viscosity of 600~900mPa·s could be obtained, the carbide density of the green body prepared could be controlled between 0.81 ~0.84g/cm3. The density and flexural strength of the obtained RBSC were 3.05 ~3.10 g/cm3 and 425 ~653MPa,respectively, and the RBSC had a uniform microstructure.
