Abstract:Ceramics, jade, bronze, lacquer and silk are considered the quintessence of Chinese culture. Seemingly, they use totally different art languages and expressions, yet they share the similar "legend". A comparative study of dragon designs on ceramic and traditional fabric, a "trans-boundary" effort that it is, has a positive effect on the creation of contemporary ceramics and works of other forms. It's especially the case today when traditional artists of ceramics, metal, stone, silk and lacquer are seeking persistently new ideas and approaches. In order to represent the glory, they wish to make a new • classic" out of the traditional ones. Therefore, this article attempts to express the thread of "trans-boundary" in terms of culture and arts, and also to conduct a tentative thinking of inheriting and carrying forward traditional culture.

Key words:ceramic arts; dragon design; trans-boundary
