Abstract: French translations of Chinese ceramic classics and their influence since the 19th century are comprehensively combed and compared. There are three stages in their history, namely, the early formation and development period, the mid-term stagnation and dormancy period and the later revival and active period. The social background, status of French translations, influence and reasons of the formation of these three stages are systematically overviewed. At the same time, the current problems in the translation of Chinese ceramic classics are comprehensively analyzed, such as the limited research field of sinology, the lack of professional translators, the insufficient translation theory research and so on. In view of these problems, countermeasures are put forward, in order to provide useful reference for the translation of Chinese ceramic classics and the "going global" of Chinese culture.

Key words: Chinese ceramic classics; French translation; French ceramic industry; 19th century
