Abstract: Using added rare earth oxide as a component of nanometer antibacterial glaze, antibacterial ceramics was made by sintering at 1180℃ in air condition. The influences of added rare earth oxide on the quality and properties of glaze were studied. Results have shown that thes e new materials have more excellent antibacterial action than thos e without rare earth oxide. The quality of glaze surface is excellent. By adding 0.5 wt% rare earth oxide, the whiteness , the abrasion resistance, the hardness and the thermal shock resistance of glaze are improved remarkably.
