Abstract: Through the mechanical activation of powder mixtures of anatase and corundum via planetary high energy ball mill, pure Al2TiO5 powders were synthesized by post- calcination at 1300 ℃ (1hour) using the activated powders as precursors. The characteristic changes of particle sizes and phases in the process of mechanical activation were investigated through XRD analysis. The results obtained show that, the reaction activity of powder mixtures can be improved through mechanical acti- vation and the synthetic temperature of solid state reaction aluminum titanate can be reduced.

Keywords: aluminum titanate, mechanical activation, X- ray diffraction, synthetic powder
