Abstract: The concept of de-airing efficiency of clay, as a parameter ·for_ evaluating the relative amount of air removed from clay, instead of the vacuum as used usually, is introduced and an equation to calculate this parameter has been derived. The de-airing pr_ocess in vacuum system of de-airing pug mills has been studied bas-ed on the principles of hydrodynamics and thermodynamics. The study showed that leakage of vacuum system is one of the factors which have a significant influence on the de-airing efficiency of clay and vacuum pumps to be used in the vacuum systems :have to have an air inlet valve.
