Abstract: Pr- CeO2 Nano- crys talline red pigments are prepared from cerium (Ⅲ) nitrate hexahydrate and praseodymium oxide by Low - temperature Combus tion Synthes is (LCS) combined with a Hydrothermal Method treatment. The pigments were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS and XPS. The results show that the trivalent Pr enters CeO2crys tal lattice and forms Pr-CeO2 solid solution, which is based on the fluorite s tructure. It subs titutes trivalent Pr for tetravalent Ce in CeO2 crys tal and is compensated by oxygen vacancies . Pr - CeO2 pigments , with average grain s ize about 16.70 nm, prepared by this method have better crys tal s tructure and red tonality compared with LCS method alone.
