Abstract: Most of the 30% inorganic composition of fish scale is hydroxyapatite. The hydroxyapatite has good biocompatibility, which has a wide use biomedical fields. In this paper, the effects of the concentration of NaOH solution and the soaking time on the particle sizes and microstructures of the products from calcined fish scales were investigated. The phase composition and microstructure of calcined products were characterized by X -ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope respectively. The results show that hydroxyapatite in the product can grow into good cubic flake when the fish scales are soaked in 1 mol/L of NaOH solution for 24h, and the particle size of the calcined product after being soaked for 48 h is smaller than that of the product soaked for 12 h and 24 h.
